HISTORY 1st edition

  The festival happened from November 17th to 20th, 2010 in Cine Gloria - Rio de Janeiro and had free entry.

We received 98 movies from 10 countries besides Brazil (England, Scotland, Italy, Mexico, Bolivia, Peru, Argentina, Venezuela, Spain and Greece).

In the National Competitive Exhibition, category from 8 to 13 years old, the Best Film Award went to “The Story of a Bench” (João Pedro Marini – 12 years old – Rio de Janeiro) and under category from 14 to 17 years old the award was for “Dynamite and Pastryl” (Lello Campos - 15 years old - Saquarema).

In the International Competitive Exhibition, category from 8 to 13 years old, the Best Film Award went to "Here You Are the Hands" (students from the Primary School Via Repubblica Senago - 8 years old - Italy) and under category from 14 to 17 years old the award went to "Knitting for Human Rights" (students from the Secondary School Giacomo Perlasca - 13 and 14 years old - Italy).

The Special Prize went to “Cold I be a Planet” (Laura Bezerra - 8 years old - Rio de Janeiro), “Verbena and Lemon” (Luis Sá e Luis Kurz – 17 years old – Maranhão), "School of the Dead" (students from the Hills Lower School - 7 to 9 years old - England) and “Don´t look back” (Aniano Costa, Pablo Salmón and Yaldá Peñas – students from the Film School Orson the Kid - 16 and 17 years old - Spain).

Besides the competitive exhibitions, we also had debates with cinema and educational area professionals. We had the roundtable "Digital Generation" with Aline Paiva, Olivia Emes and Sância Velloso as a mediator. Also had the “small roundtable”, "Lights, Camera and Action" with three students aged between 8 and 18 years and a mediator, via video conference between Brazil (Film School Young Filmmaker), Spain (Film School Orson the Kid) and Scotland (GMAC - Glasgow Media Access Centre).

The entrance hall housed the photographic exhibition "Small Looks" made by children about the topic “What is cinema”. The photographer Tatiana Altberg was invited to develop the exhibition with children of the Mão na Lata Project of the ONG Redes, using the pinhole´s technique.

It was offered the workshop "Our voice through the eyes" taught by the english filmmaker Olivia Emes, aimed at teachers from public and private education.

This year, Axel Grael was honored for creating the Grael´s Project, which for the past 12 years has contributed to the education of children and adolescents who can participate in activities such as swimming, sailing, professional training courses and environment awareness activities. The program has benefited about 10 000 public school students.

For the festival opening, the actor Gracindo Jr. and the young filmmaker Felipe Leibold were the masters of ceremony, presenting four invited films, including "Contratempo" by Malu Mader and Mini Kerti documenting the story of a teenagers group from poor communities who seek in a musical social project a meaning for improving their lives. Malu spoke a little about the process of making the film and twenty children of the Grota´s Orchestra, closed the night with a thrilling live performance.

The jury was composed by ten children and teenagers with profiles representing different regions and different socio economic classes of Rio de Janeiro state, which met in NAVE - Advanced Educational Center. The awards were the trophy designed by the multimedia artist João Machado for the Best Film and the Kodak´s clapboard for the Special Prize.

Our partners were: PEC, Cine Glória, British Council, Secretaria de Estado de Educação do Rio de Janeiro, Delux Comunicação, Saphyr, Raconto e Kodak.

The result of the first edition was better than expected, prompting us to move forward with the initiative to give voice to children and youth, contributing to the formation of future citizens, more critical and selective in what they see and do.
